Weekend Snapshots October 11-13, 2013

Hi everyone! I hope you had a nice weekend! Chris and I had a nice and rainy weekend here in DC. The sun is finally supposed to peak out this afternoon and I am so excited! I don’t think we’ve seen the sun since last Monday!

After a rainy Friday, I decided to make some chili for Chris and I to enjoy at home.

I defrosted some ground beef, threw in some tomatoes, spices, onion, green pepper, and beans. This was actually really delicious! I wrote down the recipe I created so that I can hopefully share it here in the future! We topped ours with creamy greek yogurt and shredded cheddar cheese. It really hit the spot!

Chris and I decided to continue our rainy night in and rented Now You See Me. I wasn’t sure that I would like the movie, but I ended up really enjoying it!

Chris and I were up early on Saturday morning after our low-key evening, which is a win in my opinion! I did work for most of the morning and then headed down to our gym for a 6 mile run on the treadmill! I wasn’t originally planning on 6 miles, but Enemy of the State was on the gym TV and it was holding my attention so I check chugging along!

20131014-083154.jpgI was absolutely starving after my run so I immediately had a snack when I got back to my apartment. I cut up a Honeycrisp apple (the BEST!) and mixed together some greek yogurt and peanut butter. I love apples with peanut butter and greek yogurt with peanut butter, so I figured this would be a great combo. It was such an awesome snack! I really liked my “apple dippers” and can quickly see this becoming a new go-to snack. It is a good way to get the peanut butter flavor while keeping calories and fat low!

After cleaning up, Chris and I headed into Georgetown to meet up with some friends. We had dinner at Pizza Paradiso on M St. Chris and I love this place and our friends really liked it as well! We sat downstairs, which is really cozy and even has a fireplace. However, the lighting isn’t great so I didn’t take pictures. Lucky for you guys, Chris and IĀ  are creatures of habit and ordered the exact same meal we had on this evening. Click over to check it out! It was superb again!!! I love that salad and the spicy Atomica pizza!!

After dinner, our group of seven headed down the road to see Captain Phillips! I really, really enjoyed Captain Phillips! I love Tom Hanks anyway and he did such a wonderful job in this movie. The Somalian actors were awesome too. I highly recommend seeing it! I even teared up at the end – great acting Tom!!

20131014-083143.jpgOn Sunday morning, Chris and I were up relatively early again. I made myself a smoothie for breakfast and I made Chris another breakfast sandwich! The color of my smoothie isn’t as pretty because I made my usual blueberry smoothie, but I added some spinach into the mix. While the color wasn’t great, the flavor definitely was! This kept me full late into the afternoon.

20131014-083132.jpgChris and I headed to the grocery store mid-day and then came home to watch football. One of Chris’ friends from high school recently moved to Arlington, so we had him over to watch with us. I made a quick and easy chili dip and Chris made his infamous guacamole. Both were hits!

We spent most of the day watching football and catching up – a fun way to spend another gray afternoon!

20131014-083123.jpgFor dinner, the three of us headed over to Tom Yum District. Chris and I wanted to give it another try and I am glad we did! This time I had brown rice, steak, lots of veggies, and the Tom Yum sauce. It was delicious!! Chris really liked his too. I can definitely see many dinners in our future at Tom Yum District – it is so convenient, cheap, and fresh!

After dinner, Chris and I watched the Season Premiere of The Walking Dead! Any other Walking Dead fans out there? What did you think of the premiere? It looks like this season should be interesting!!

I hope you all have a wonderful week!!

  1. I’m not a huge fan of football but love me some football snacks! šŸ™‚ That chili dip looks fantastic! Really nice to meet another lawyer (to be)!

    • Haha, if we’re being honest I’m a bigger fan of the snacks than the game as well. šŸ™‚ Thanks! It’s just three layers consisting of cream cheese, chili, and pepper jack cheese. I throw it in a 350 degree oven until it bubbles. Nice to meet you too! I have read your blog for a while; your ability to be a lawyer, a mom, and a blogger is inspiring and refreshing! Thanks for stopping by!

  2. chili is definitely a go-to quick, always delicious recipe! sounds like you had a whirlwind weekend with lots of good good food šŸ™‚
