Hi everyone and happy Friday!
I have been feeling a little under-the-weather this week and I wasn’t planning to post today. However, after a green-pick-me-up smoothie I am feeling slightly better and I decided to share my secret weapon! I’m not sure if it is just the constant rain that has me down or if it is related to the flu shot I had earlier this week, but I’m hoping that this smoothie keeps me going through the rest of the afternoon!
I’ve talked about green smoothies before and I really enjoy them. While the thought of one might sound odd, you really can’t taste the secret green ingredient. Also, it works wonders!
To make a green smoothie you need: 1 frozen banana (preferably peeled and chopped in advance), 3/4 – 1 cup skim milk, 1/2 cup of nonfat greek yogurt, 2 big handfuls of spinach, and 1 Tbsp. of natural peanut butter.
Just throw all the ingredients in a blender and blend on a high speed. Adjust the milk to your preference. I usually don’t measure the milk, I just pour until I have the consistency I want!
Pour it in a glass an enjoy with a straw!
A note about frozen bananas – it is easier to peel and chop a brown banana before you freeze it. I like to store chopped bananas in ziplock bags in my freezer. However, I don’t always have time to pre-slice my banana before freezing, so I just throw the banana peel and all into the freezer. I just use a knife to slice the peel off and then chop up the frozen banana. This is not particularly difficult to do with a frozen banana, but your hand sure gets cold! Moral of the story – peel and chop before freezing whenever possible!
I hope you all are having better weather than we are in DC and that you have an awesome weekend!
I’ll hopefully be back on Monday with a report that I felt well enough to enjoy the weekend! Have a good one!
