Friends! Today is the first day of my new externship and of classes. I’m excited and also not quite ready for summer to end… But, I’m trying to remind myself that fall is awesome and consists of things other than school like crisp mornings, football games, and pumpkin everything! I spent my last weekend of freedom acquiring a new TV addiction — Scandal (OMG SO GOOD!!!!!) and relaxing.
On Friday, I was super lame and watched Scandal after Chris fell asleep early. I thoroughly enjoyed myself :).
On Saturday morning, I made whole wheat pancakes with almonds mixed in. Yum! These were great and I loved the texture the almonds added. They kept me full longer too – bonus!
After breakfast, Chris and I headed out for a short 3 mile run. It wasn’t on our training plan, but we wanted to get out and do something active. It is funny how half marathon training has morphed a 3 mile run into “short.” The great thing is that I no longer dread a 3 mile run — it is fun and easy!
Chris wanted to watch the Liverpool soccer game, so after our run we headed to Ireland’s Four Courts in Courthouse for the match and to meet up with some of Chris’ friends. After the soccer game, I convinced Chris to go to Whitlow’s rooftop for some food and to soak up the sunshine. We split this club sandwich with chicken which was really good!! I was very impressed by their food. The fries weren’t too bad either :).
When the day starting coming to an end we decided to walk back. We made a pit stop at California Tortilla for dinner. I had the enchilada bowl and was really impressed. They use Spanish rice and don’t charge extra for guacamole!
After dinner, Chris and I went over to one of my friend’s houses before heading out in DC. We went to the New Vegas Lounge in DuPont. They had a great band and we had fun dancing the night away.
For breakfast on Sunday, I had a piece of avocado toast with crushed red pepper and sea salt. Yum!!! Such a good meal – satisfying and full of healthy fats. I also recently bought Ezekiel bread and really like it! It has way more texture and crunch than regular bread.
Chris and I watched The Descendants on Sunday afternoon while delaying our 10 mile run. I loved the movie – a perfect mix of sad and funny.
After the movie, I had some work to finish up and then got packed up for Monday. Lunches were made and bags were packed, back to school for me! I’m excited to see what my second year of law school holds. It is nice not to be nervous about my first cold call – I’m a seasoned veteran now!
Chris and I finally ventured out for our 10 mile run around 6. Now all of our long training runs are behind us! We’re tapering this week and have our run on Sunday!! I’m excited and a little nervous, but I think we’re ready!
We came home and had chicken thighs cooked in the crockpot topped with some salsa. I also made a really delicious quinoa salad with bell peppers, jalapeno, red onion, and zucchini. Dressed with olive oil and red wine vinegar – yum! I love quinoa!
Time to start the day off! I hope you all have a fabulous week!
