Weekend Snapshots June 8-10, 2012

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend, and was able to keep cool! It was h-o-t in DC! But, the heat didn’t stop me from venturing out, and enjoying some delicious food! Chris had a friend in town on Friday, so the three of us had dinner at Cafe Asia, which is right around the corner from my apartment. I love the sushi there! The four rolls above are the Cajun, the Chesapeake Bay, the Firecracker, and the Spicy Tuna. The Chesapeake Bay is my favorite! Shrimp tempura, fresh crab, and avocado, yum! Below are the other three rolls we ordered, the Spicy Crab, Shrimp Tempura, and the Fresh Salmon roll. No leftovers for this group! After dinner, we headed into the city to catch up with some of Chris’ friends. Great conversation, and food made for a fantastic Friday evening!

On Saturday, I caught up on laundry in the morning, but needed to fuel up first! I had some chicken sausages in the fridge, so I cooked those along with sautéed peppers and onions. Fruit salad on the side! Perfect breakfast that kept me full until the late afternoon!

Chris had a similar breakfast, except with an extra sausage link, and an over-easy egg!

While Chris worked, I headed down to the pool to catch some rays, and to read. I finished Nicholas Sparks’ new book, The Best of Me, it was a great read, I highly recommend it! I’m sure it’ll be made into a movie soon, as most of his books are. I also went for a twenty-minute swim, to get some exercise in the heat! I could tell it had been awhile since my last swim workout in my shoulders, ouch! Around four, I had worked up an appetite, so I headed upstairs and threw together a quinoa salad to snack on. I cooked some chicken, zucchini, bell pepper, broccoli, and onion to add the quinoa, and dressed it with a little balsamic vinegar. It was the perfect appetizer!

After our snack, we got cleaned up, and headed over to my friend Lauren’s house. They were grilling brats, and had some great dips and other apps! Served with a glass or two of wine, and some more great convos! The perfect way to enjoy a steamy summer evening.

On Sunday morning, my brother, Chris, and I headed over to Kent Island to have lunch with my parents. We met them at Annie’s, which is a lovely seafood and steak house, right on the water. Chris and I split the cream of crab soup to start. Their cream of crab is the best!!  I couldn’t resist, its super filling though!

Next up was my side salad, I was pretty full after this guy!

Finally we got to the main event! I had the 9 ounce sirloin and crab cake combo. It was so good, I don’t know whether I liked the crab cake or steak better! I wasn’t able to finish either one, so maybe I can decide later when I’m having my leftovers!!

We said goodbye and headed back to DC, luckily not running into too much beach traffic! Chris got to working, and I hit up the grocery store. Somehow, we found ourselves hungry for dinner around seven. I made a light potato salad, roasted vegetables, and I made my turkey burgers again! Everything was great, if you guys didn’t get around to making the turkey burgers this weekend, make them soon! Chris liked them so much, he had two!

We digested dinner over the Mad Men season finale, can’t believe it’s over already! What did you guys think of this season? I thought it was a little dark, but still enjoyed it.

I hope you had a great weekend!
