Monday again! Monday always seems to come too quickly, doesn’t it? I had great weekend visiting with family and spending time with some great friends. On Friday evening, I had plans to meet my friend Caley and her boyfriend Robbie at Truckaroo. Truckaroo is a festival down near the National’s Stadium in Southeast DC. All of the popular food trucks in DC park inside of the Fairgrounds, and serve up their specialities from 11-11 on select Fridays during the summer. They also showcase live bands and serve alcohol, at National’s Stadium prices, mind you!
We took a tour of the food trucks while mulling over which truck we should try. After evaluating the lines and menus, we decided to try the Hula Girl Truck. We were not let down! We all ordered the meat trio platter which was a mix of Kalua Pork, Teriyaki Steak, and Teriyaki Chicken. It’s served with two scoops of sticky rice, and your choice of macaroni salad or a tossed salad. I chose the tossed salad. Hula Girl’s food was really wonderful, I was very impressed by the large portions and the quality of the food. Each meat was delicious, but my favorite was the pork! I’m sure you all are shocked!
My parents came into town on Saturday to bring me a desk for law school, and to see my brother and sister-in-law’s new house! My dad, being the handy guy he is, installed a new faucet and ceiling fan for them! Before the work began, the five of us went to lunch at the Hopsfrog Grille which is right down the street from Trey and Megan’s new house.
I ordered the Taco Salad which was topped with chili, guacamole, and sour cream. It was wonderful! We really enjoyed our meal at Hopsfrog Grille, and want to go back again to try their flaming cheese appetizer. We saw someone else order it and were very jealous!
While the men worked on the house, the ladies set out to do a little shopping at the local Walmart. There was a Barefoot wine tasting happening while we were there, who would have thought!? We participated, obviously!! After Walmart, we headed to the grocery store to pick up some items to make dinner at Trey and Megan’s house. We started off with cheese and grapes, paired with some Barefoot wine we had sampled!
We had to improvise on a dining room table for dinner, because Trey and Megan haven’t picked one out yet. We gathered chairs from throughout the house, and used a TV tray and an end table as our “dining room table.” Whatever works right??!
Downstairs, then men were working the grill. Here’s the beautiful couple with their new grill! Sorry its a little blurry!
We ended up pulling together a fantastic meal! There was a vegetable tray involved as well, but not enough room on our “dining room table.” The steaks were huge! We definitely had a few leftovers which is never a bad thing!
On Sunday morning, we headed back over to the Hopsfrog Grille for brunch. I ordered the Hopsfrog omelet which was full of jalapeños, onions, bell peppers, and cheese, served with salsa on the side. It was cooked perfectly and had a nice hit of heat which I like in eggs. Makes them more exciting!
After brunch, my dad, mom, and I headed over to see American’s law school. We took a little self guided tour and were very impressed, I’m excited to go back to school! After our little excursion we said our goodbyes and my parents headed back to Delaware. I hit up the grocery store and cranked out some laundry, standard Sunday activities!
A little later Chris came over for dinner. I prepared a caprese salad with some leftover heirloom tomatoes I bought earlier in the week to use in a new mussel recipe. Aren’t they gorgeous?
We had steak and fresh corn on the cob for dinner with the caprese salad. Great little Sunday night dinner!
That’s about it folks! I hope you all had as wonderful of a weekend as I did!
